Taking a break…

me-american-basinI am taking a break from gracefull things… actually, I have been doing so for quite a while in an unintentional way.

Today, I realized that I needed to formally say this online. Recovering from two deaths in my family has taken more from me that I really understand. I may be back later so I’m leaving the website in place for now.

Lapis Fest!

Okay, if looks like “Lapis Fest” at Gracefull Things… several new pieces, all just full of lovely, shimmering Lapis. Links to each item are found in the Current Gallery, the main page of the site.

Lapis Dangle Earrings

Southwest Sun Wrap Bracelet

Lapis and Bronze Necklace & Earrings

new wrap bracelet

Lapis is one of my favorite stones and it looks great in so many color combinations.  The deep blue of the Lapis, the desert sand colors of the Picture Jasper, and the golden browns of the glass beads in this piece feel very Southwestern to me… and I LOVE the Southwest!

This piece will definitely have a twin.  My youngest daughter and I will be fighting for turns to wear it.  🙂

Edge Outreach

I have a soft spot in my heart for EDGE OUTREACH.

Edge provides training, equipment, and resources to help mobilize people to address the global need for clean, safe, sustainable drinking water.

When a piece is designated to benefit EDGE, 100% of the sales price will be donated to EDGE to support their efforts.

Mothers of God

Bronze Theotokos with Garnet

This piece was inspired by a season of worship last year in several Eastern Orthodox churches. Theotokos is the Greek title of Mary the mother of Jesus and the word literally means “the one who gives birth to God.”

Consider the words of Meister Eckhart, the 14th century Dominican monk:

“We are all meant to be mothers of God. What good is it to me if this eternal birth of the divine Son takes place unceasingly but does not take place within myself? And what good is it to me if Mary is full of grace if I am not also full of grace? What good is it to me for the Creator to give birth to his Son if I also do not give birth to him in my time and my culture? This, then, is the fullness of time. When the Son of God is begotten in us.”

This piece recently sold. It can be recreated on request with Garnets or other stones. Also available in Sterling Silver.

Loaves and Fishes

Studies of corporate management behavior indicate that it requires at least four words of praise to balance every word of criticism directed toward an employee.

David Whyte is a gifted poet who speaks eloquently to the convergence of soul and work. In the following short poem, Whyte reminds us of the necessity of “a good word.”

Loaves and Fishes

This is not the age of information.

This is not the age of information.

Forget the news,
and the radio,
and the blurred screen.

This is the time of loaves
and fishes.

People are hungry,
and one good word is bread
for a thousand.

Saint Francis Necklace

In 2007, a small group within my faith community began to explore Franciscan spirituality and in particular, the development of a personal Rule of Life.   Developing that rule and abiding with it has been an ongoing process, graced with many gifts.

Here’s a link to a great summary of what is meant by a Rule of Life and how to begin to develop one.
