Lapis is one of my favorite stones and it looks great in so many color combinations. The deep blue of the Lapis, the desert sand colors of the Picture Jasper, and the golden browns of the glass beads in this piece feel very Southwestern to me… and I LOVE the Southwest!

This piece will definitely have a twin. My youngest daughter and I will be fighting for turns to wear it. :)

Bronze Theotokos with Garnet

This piece was inspired by a season of worship last year in several Eastern Orthodox churches. Theotokos is the Greek title of Mary the mother of Jesus and the word literally means “the one who gives birth to God.”

Consider the words of Meister Eckhart, the 14th century Dominican monk:

“We are all meant to be mothers of God. What good is it to me if this eternal birth of the divine Son takes place unceasingly but does not take place within myself? And what good is it to me if Mary is full of grace if I am not also full of grace? What good is it to me for the Creator to give birth to his Son if I also do not give birth to him in my time and my culture? This, then, is the fullness of time. When the Son of God is begotten in us.”

In 2007, a small group within my faith community began to explore Franciscan spirituality and in particular, the development of a personal Rule of Life. Developing that rule and abiding with it has been an ongoing process, graced with many gifts.
